Tis the season... I'm BACK!!

I'm Back!!  It's been a long vacation away from my passion of writing.  Over time, I have had the honor of watching my daughter turn to blogging for herself.  She also spends quite a bit of time surfing through my old blog that is filled with her childhood memories along with memories of her father and I.  She loves to look through it but typically ends up a little upset by the time she is finished.  I just pray for her heart when I know she's going to be looking at the past memories.

Well, here we are.  Tomorrow, December 2014 will be upon us.  What a wild crazy year this has been for our family.  As with most families, we have taken the great with the not so great and done the best with what we have been blessed with.

The year of 2014 started off as a cold, typical January.  Snowfall was pretty intense.  We had numerous snow days and the adults even had a few aching muscles after shoveling and blowing all that snow.  One thing we didn't get to do was go sledding. That is definitely on my bucket list this winter.  The kids love to go play in the snow and so do I.

February was pretty much more of the snow and cold weather.  As a matter of fact, the cold snowy weather seemed to stick around for a few months just to torture us a bit longer.  We all handled it like champs, even enduring the bitter cold weather, the power outages that lasted a few days long and the snow days that the kids were blessed with.

March came upon is and by this time we had Austin and Jonathon both playing Basketball.  They both enjoy sports so much and their ability levels are pretty decent.  When there wasn't practice, there was games.  When there were no games, there were track meets and practices for Austin and Katelyn.  When there was no track commitment, there was band for Austin and Running Club for Emilee.  Before long, we would be moving on to the next sports...  Baseball.

Jonathon & Austin both played baseball this year too.  They had a great time and it was a blast watching them grow into such great players.  Their team mates are pretty great too.  As a parenting, it is a great opportunity to watch each player grow and develop into such a fantastic ball player over the years.  We did baseball for both boys well into the summer and soon after, Football was upon us.

Late July into August, Football took shape and the boys started their condition requirements and were broken down into their appropriate teams for practices.  Our nights were filled with practices and games all week long.  It's a great family event and thankfully my family is good about going to the various events with everyone.  Not only are we able to spend quality family time together but also encourage our siblings and friends on in the process.

September brought back another bout with the crazy stalker, a new school year and more football.  Some people just have nothing better to do rather than cause troubles.  I expected nothing less.

Football lasts until Mid to late October and many times, requires some warm clothes while being a spectator.  This year we had rain, snow, freezing rain, and very cold temps.  It was pretty brutal.  Each year is a learning experience for what to be certain you bring for the next years adventures.  Hand warmers, gloves, scarves, hats and blankets are a must.  If you have anything waterproof, I'd bring that as well.  Well worth it to stay dry and comfortable.

This year, The kids are in 12th (Jacob), 10th (Aaron),  9th (Austin), 8th (Katelyn), 6th (Emilee) and 3rd (Jonathon).  Life is very very busy!!  I couldn't imagine it any other way though.  These kiddos are what keep me going, keep me young and keep me loving life!!

Late October, we were gearing up for a Halloween walk with the kiddos.  We brought them to the city of Mason along with some friends and let them go trick or treating around town with us.  They seemed to do well with their little stash.  We came home and they did their shares and trades before falling asleep.

November has joined us and is on it's way out now.  It was an exciting month.  Jacob was able to do some hunting and managed to kill a 3 point with his beautiful girlfriend, Hannah.  They are adorable together.  It was an experience I was happy for them to have had together.  I had a similar experience I was able to share with Jacob's father many years ago while out hunting.  Very memorable for both of us.  November has also given us the opportunity to move back into town, closer for the many sporting practices, events, meetings, games and schools for the children.  It was becoming more difficult to accomplish everything that needed to be done when I was trying to do it alone.  On top of that, I was working and needed to be able to schedule my work hours around the hours that the children are in classes.  I am thankful that I have a position to do that in.  Not everyone is so lucky.

December begins in the morning and that too looks lust as busy as the previous eleven months.  I will have one in competitive cheerleading, two in basketball and one in book club.  The eldest will be working.  All five kiddos will be on a mission to one place or another so being in town was my only option of continuing to allow them the options of being involved in sports.

I have found a three bedroom/two bathroom duplex right in town that is working out well.  The kids are still adjusting to things, as am I.  We tend to forget we have a second bathroom and often times we are waiting at the upstairs bathroom for someone to get finished inside it.  :)  The living room and dining room Is all open and cozy.  I like it that way.  The kitchen is a one or two person kitchen so there isn't much move in there to maneuver around in there, especially if you have no purpose to be in there at the moment.  We have a full laundry and full bathroom downstairs with the two bedrooms.  The kiddos are still getting adjusted to their rooms.  We're getting closer.  They definitely like to be in a small place.  As I've been told, "Love grows best in little houses where few walls can separate, where you eat and sleep so close together, you can't help but communicate."....

The downfall of having a smaller home is the fact that the kids "forget" that everything has a place.  Nothing needs to be just left out or lying around.  They have a specific place for everything.  They are a little testy when that is mentioned to them but they are catching on...slowly.

I do have numerous things that will be listed for sale before long.  I have vowed to bring ONLY what I NEED.  If I don't use it, I don't want to hang on to it "just in case".  I'm not a hoarder.  In fact, too much clutter gives me great anxiety.  If you are looking for something specific, let me know.  I will let you know what I have.  Whatever we sell will be used for Christmas present money.  What we can't sell will be donated.  The kids are no longer really into toys anymore now that they have gotten older.  They are wanting the more expensive electronics and clothing that they feel is "cool".

Well, it's now time to get the kiddos into bed.  Before I go, I'll share with you a few photos that I took today while out walking with three of the five kids today.

In the blink of an eye

It's May already.  Can you believe it?

I have been so overwhelmed with...well...life...so my writing has taken a huge hit by being put on hold.  Let me catch you all up.

Jacob (16) is doing well.  He will be turning 17 in a few more weeks.  I have no idea how the years have flown by so quickly but they have.  It's sad and exciting all at once.  I love to listen to him talk about his "big" dreams.  I hope and pray that every one of them come to fruition for him.  Yet, as we all are well aware of, seldom do every single one of our dreams come true.  Jacob has been enjoying hanging out with some of his friends.  He is really looking forward to starting a job this summer and having some of his own spending money.  (Shhh, mom is looking forward to that too!!)

Austin (14) is preparing for a busy few months ahead.  He continues to do well academically.  We just finished drafting his four year plan for high school.  No surprise that he is focusing his studies around Sciences.  He has said he wants to pursue Medicine.  I encourage him to do so.  I truly believe he will be a great person to work in the medical field.  Austin is really enjoying his athletics right now.  He is on the track team as well as on the baseball team.  He is doing very well in both sports.  There may be some frazzled nerves from time to time when it comes to needing to be in six different places at one time but those too shall pass.  I really enjoy watching him compete and better himself.  He will be leaving Friday for an over night trip to the Island for band.  Next week he leaves on a trip for DC for History.  A few weeks later, it's off to Cedar Point for his class trip.  This child is definitely going to be a well rounded kid.  (and his Mom is going to be broke)

Katelyn (12+) also has decided to go out for track this year.  She enjoys running longer distances tho.  Austin is a shorter distance sprinter.  Katelyn has had some difficulties learning to balance sports and school work this last week and it has caused her to become ineligible for the last track meet.  After much prodding and hard realities, she is starting to show a positive change.  Hopefully next week we are able to see her back on the track competing.  She has also decided that she really likes to write.  She's started writing her own book and also has her own blog to journal.  It's wonderful to have a fellow writer in the family.  :)  I love reading her perspective on things.  Katelyn is finding her way this year.  She is learning about trust, love, true friends, and the impact all of this can have on your life.  Add to the mix of a "boy friend" and you can see why she is high on my radar of making sure she has proper guidance.  Teenage girls are difficult at times....

Emilee (11) is my challenging child currently.  She has been Miss Sassy pants.  I'm sure the age has a lot to do with it but WOW!  I think I have sprouted even more grey hair since the first of the year just from her sassy attitude.   She is learning the ropes of her 5th grade work and preparing to head to the Middle School next year.  (really?  Already?)  She went today and met her teacher.  I know it will be an adjustment for her just as it was for her sister.  Perhaps the girls have a harder time adjusting than the boys.  At least mine have followed that trend.  Emilee is doing two running clubs in school.  One club is on going.  It's called the Mileage Club.  She has logged more than 5 miles during her recess times.  Emilee just finished her Steele running club this week.  She ran in her first real race at the 1 mile/ 5k race in town.  She did very well and earned a medal at the end of it.  I think she really enjoyed it.  We will be attempting the Michigan Mile run in a few weeks too.

Jonathon (8) is growing up to be so much like his big brothers.  He does seem to be a little more tender hearted (I do like that aspect).  He is rough and tough just like the older kids are but has a softer side to him as well.  Jonathon enjoyed his basketball season.  He started doing the running club at school and has logged over 15 miles so far.  He also ran the race in town and did extremely well.  He placed before his sister even.  He, too, will be running in the Michigan Mile and is super excited at the opportunity to do so.  Jon is playing baseball as well.  He is enjoying it and looks forward to the games beginning.  He is still enjoying school and spending time with his friends.  That's a blessing.

Each one of these kiddos blesses me in so many different ways.  I can not imagine my life without each of them.  I am so honored to be their Momma.  My nerves may get frazzled. My house may not be spic and span.  My laundry may not be neatly folded and hung up.  And I may not be the best gourmet cook.  None of that matters to these kiddos.  They know that they are loved, without a doubt.  They know that their Momma has their backs.  They know that they have a safe place to be, a home filled with love and the protection only a Mother could provide them with.  They truly are my life, my heart, my pride and joy.

I love you kids.  Every single one of you!!

Love,
Your Momma

Spring has Sprung 2014

Life is busy.

My heart is full.

I wouldn't have it any other way!

Now that the weather is finally starting to break into a nicer warmer pattern, the family is feeling more motivated to be out and about every day  Praise God!

Life is great here!  The kids are mid way through their school year and just completed spring break last week.  The first half of the year has gone by so quickly.  We had band concerts and performances, vocal performances and programs, football for Austin & Jonathon.  Immediately afterwards, Austin and Jonathon started basketball.  Austin went on to play a second traveling basketball team as well.  We've had a very short lull in the sports but chaos has once again ensued and we are back at the busy pace we were in the fall.

This spring, Katelyn is doing track.  Emilee is doing running club to prep for her first 5K this next month.  Jonathon is gearing up to start baseball and Austin will be beginning baseball this week as well.  Jacob continues to work on his education and has been contacting local area farmers to see about a part time job as well.  He has grown into such an amazing 16 year old.  It's hard to believe he is that old!!

We have numerous things "in the works" right now that we aren't able to really discuss them fully yet.  As soon as we can, we will.  :)

I hope this spring is treating each of you all well, happy and in good health.

Summer is just around the corner.  Hold tight just a little bit longer....

Until then,

Many Blessings from us to you!!

Wise words from Emilee tonight.

Emilee's Quotes of the day that she would like to share with everyone.

You are braver than you believe.
Stronger than you seem.
And Smarter than you think.

A little spunk
A little sass
and more than a little magic

You must chose your own path.
Friends and fun just go together.
I'm so happy I could bounce.
Giving up is for rookies.

The world is a magical place.
All you have to do is believe.

Life is too short to be serious.

Some people care too much.
I think it's called love.

Play hard...
Nap hard...

Why not believe in the fairy tails?

Stress...
What stress?

It could be so nice if something made sense for a change.

McShot's Magical Walt Disney World Pre-Trip Report

Welcome to the Pre-Trip report for the McShot's Magical Walt Disney World Trip 2014.

I will be documenting our journey here for all of you to enjoy as well.

Let's begin by introducing the cast for this trip.

First up, you have my husband David.  David will be 48 on this trip.  The last time he was at Disney was about 20 years ago.  His last trip there was with his young toddlers.  David isn't a Disney Nut ...yet... but I have a feeling that I'll have him converted over by the first nightfall that we spend in The World.

Joining David will be his Son, Aaron.  Aaron is 16 and has no recollection of being at Disney before.  Rumor has it that he was there as a young toddler.  Aaron is very reluctant to come with our family on this trip because he is afraid to miss school for five days.  Because we have such a tight schedule year round, we have decided to pull the six children out of school for the last week prior to the schools recessing for Christmas Break.  Our children are very good students and we felt this was the best time to pull them out when looking at various testing, exams week and the stipulations for visitations the children have with their other parents.

Rounding out this McBunch is David's wife, Rebecca.  (That's Me!)  I will be 37 on this trip.  I am a Disney nut!  I have been there three times so far and am so excited to be going again.  The last time I was in Disney was in 2007 with my four young children (ages 9, 6, 5 and 3) .  They too decided that they loved Disney just as much as their Momma did so we often hear how excited they would be if we were to return.  On this trip, we will be returning with the full crew, my five wonderful children.  Joining us on this adventure will be Jacob (16), Austin (14), Katelyn (13), Emilee (11) and Jonathon (8).  The four older children have all been to Disney before.  The youngest, Jonathon, has never been and is extremely excited to experience the Disney Magic for himself.

Details have been in the works for this trip for quite some time.  Being able to accommodate and arrange the schedules of 8 people in order to fit together perfectly for a family trip can be tricky.  We began by tossing the idea around of having Christmas in Disney for 2014 at the end of 2013.  It has always been one of my dreams to go during that time of the year so we could see the beautiful decorations.  Finally, David and I decided that we were going to do it!  I could hardly contain my excitement!

January 2014:  I had spent quite some time researching the various new things that have changed since my last visit to the World.  This also rose my anticipation level a few notches.  I can't wait to see the looks on the faces of each child and of my husband as they experience the sights, sounds and magic of Disney World.  It's going to be amazing!

We also put in the request to be able to take Aaron out of the state for vacation to his Mother.  She ignored our request for two weeks.

February 2014:  Still more research.  My last visits were fantastic and I just hope to be able to recreate just as an amazing visit this time.  I was afraid that I may not like the resort I choose and couldn't nail down any one in particular.  Because our party size is 8, we knew we would be looking at expensive accommodations by staying onsite.  Then I introduced my husband to the Fort Wilderness Camping idea and no matter how many numbers I crunched, I couldn't think of staying anywhere else but the Fort.

We also received notification from the ex-w that Aaron would not be able to go on our trip with us.  (It has been 8 years since my husband has been able to take a family vacation with his son.  This was not what we wanted to hear).  The ex-w changed her mind a few different times and the latest as of the end of February is that Aaron can go, HOWEVER, she refuses to sign anything stating that we have permission to take him on vacation with us out of the state.  She says we are just going to have to "take her at her word".  Because this seems to have failed us in the past, we promptly submitted papers to the courts informing them of the situation (text messages were copied and sent as well).  We are still awaiting word on that submission.  Perhaps we will check on that when we are in court for the custody hearing that is coming up.  :)

March 2014:  We've been waiting for March to arrive.  Vacation submissions had to be turned in for my husband before March 1st.  After that, we would find out if his dates are approved.  Unfortunately, we didn't receive all of the days he wanted but we did receive enough days to go.

WE ARE GOING TO
WALT DISNEY WORLD!!!!

Our dates are final!  We are departing from Michigan on Friday December 12th in the afternoon or early evening.  This depends on whether the ex-w will allow us to have Aaron after school at 2:30 or if she will make us wait to have him at 6pm.  Time will tell.  I am guessing we will leave the evening of the 12th, drive straight through and arrive at Fort Wilderness somewhere around 3pm Saturday afternoon.

Our Campsite is reserved:  This evening, March 14, I was able to book our Preferred site at Fort Wilderness for December 13-December 20.  We had to cut our trip short due to a few of my husband's vacation days being denied.  Even so, it will still be an amazing trip and full of memories that we will hold in our hearts forever.  Have I mentioned that I'm pretty darn excited about this trip?

Let's Recap:  David (DH), Rebecca (Me) and our crew of six children will be taking on the World!  We will have Jacob (17), Aaron (16), Austin (14), Katelyn (13), Emilee (11) and Jonathon (8)
We will be staying at Fort Wilderness Campground from Saturday December 13 until Saturday December 20, 2014.

Next up -- More Planning!!

Baby, it's cold outside!

The snowfall has stopped and the frigid air has moved in. I have learned over the years that I don't tolerate the cold like I used to!

Today the children left for the weekend again. I was able to find Jonathon's basketball shoes this evening for his practice that is coming up on Sunday. He has his first game next week. Boy is he excited. Several times a day he looks on the family calendar to see how many more days he as to wait until his practice and first game. I love watching him get so fired up about it.

Dinner tonight was Turkey Tenderloin Fajitas and brown rice. When the children stopped by to get things they had left here, they said they were having fajitas too. Must be a fajita kind of night! Dinner was delicious. The only downfall was that the hubs sliced his finger open while cutting onions and it's still bleeding nearly an hour later. Pressure, pressure and more pressure! The first few days of the New Year have been pretty uneventful otherwise. I hope yours have been as well.

We are looking another 3-6 inches of snow on Sunday night into Monday morning with a high in the single digits and lows below zero. Stay warm, my friends!

Until next time~

Happy New Year

Goodbye 2013

Hello 2014

Today was a long and busy day. Last night, we spent the evening ringing in the New Year with friends and family at our home. We were able to catch a few zzz's before having to start our busy day, even if it was only a couple hours. The kiddos had to be at their Dad's at 8am and I had to be to work by 9. I was pretty happy to see the end of the work day. The little bit of sleep I did get last night was not restful sleep.

The weather today is cold and snowy. The roads are pretty messy and slick. It sounds like we are to get a few more inches of snow over night to add to the mess. As long as it's not like the ice storm we had last month, we're good!

May your 2014 be blessed!
